Why we love Tails of Hope, our September Business of the Month

As a bank with a long history in Litchfield County — 165 years and counting! — we take our commitment to the community very seriously. We live, work, play, and volunteer here. Nothing makes us happier than helping local businesses and organizations thrive.

This month, we are absolutely thrilled to be featuring Tails of Hope Foundation as our September Business of the Month.

Co-founded by Linda Blick, she and her family relocated to Litchfield County in 2015 and brought the good work of Tails of Hope with her. The organization got its start by bringing national attention to the canine search and rescue heroes of 9/11 and then expanding to support all national security canine teams-military, police, search and rescue, therapy and service dogs. The spirit of the brave dogs lives on in the canine teams who help protect and serve during catastrophes and crises across the country.

This is extremely tough work for the canines and their handlers alike. It’s not for all dogs by any means, but some just love to work. Like guide dogs and service dogs, these working dogs give everything they have to helping out humans, asking for nothing in return. Tails of Hope nonetheless does its best to give back to these canine champions.

The organization helps provide tactical equipment for the canines serving on deployment and at home, advanced veterinary care for those in need, service dogs for wounded veterans  and so much more. .

The organization also has programs that educate children and adults about the life-saving work of these dedicated canines.  Their programs have received recognition from The White House to Connecticut’s State Capital.

Linda notes, “Our mission is to support the national security canine community while elevating the human/animal bond and fostering a dialogue toward a more peaceful future.”

Locally, Tails of Hope supports the Connecticut State Police Accelerant Detection Canine Program, which uses superstar dog noses to help sniff out and solve arson cases throughout the state.

As part of our Business of the Month recognition, this month we are featuring information about Tails of Hope Foundation in our Litchfield lobby, helping spread the word about this excellent organization.

This is a small way for us to give back to the businesses and organizations that make Litchfield County such a special place to live and work.

Do you have an idea for who we should feature next? Drop us a line.
